Projects

I designed and prepared submittals for each project, translating client briefs into clear, buildable design solutions. Working from the customer’s prompt, I develop detailed drawings to guide approval. As well as providing materials for production to ensure a smooth assembly.

Bannockburn Atrium – Illinois

Challenge

Upgrade atrium with desired “bubbles” installation in an environment where no ceiling exists except for glass skylight ceiling.

THE SOLUTION:

(3) “X” configurations of JackTrack, each suspended 6in lower than each other.  This was done to mimic the look of the mullions on the glass skylight ceiling.  Cabling to remote drivers also hidden along these mullions.  Long pendant cables to traverse the vertical space, each placed on specific JackTrack runs to deliver an ideal “random” arrangement.

NRC – Nebraska

Challenge

Incorporate a circular (concentric) “inverted wedding cake” pendant arrangement on a square Quatro canopy system. Additionally recess-mounting overall Quatro system so faceplates appear flush with surrounding ceiling.

THE SOLUTION:

Strategic use of existing port locations and custom port locations on canopy faceplates. Provided detailed structural canopy engineering drawings and installation instructions for contractors.

Tower 8 – Philadelphia

Challenge

Value Engineering: Originally the fixture was to be made with 25 port canopies and 2W short frosted pendants. The project was going over-budget.  As such the Rep asked what we could do to keep the aesthetic and reduce cost.

THE SOLUTION:

To reduce cost, we reduced the overall fixture size and centered it between recessed downlights. We reduced the total number of pendants and incorporated 3in Frosted Acrylic Globes to better fill the space with a reduced number of pendants. Pendants also incorporated 3W LEDs to make up for lost light output from the original design.

Tsali Care Center – CIHA

Challenge

As a central part of a large new construction project, designers sought an impressive pendant lighting system that could highlight the facility’s main “great hall.” Challenges included a two-story sloped ceiling, limited junction boxes for drivers, and budget constraints.

THE SOLUTION:

Blackjack’s solution used a 96-inch Solo system, with each run supporting 22 pendants in two sizes, suspended at varying heights and mounted along the centerline of the hall. The sloped ceiling posed no issue, as the Solo system accommodates mounting angles up to 30 degrees, while random run lengths between 131 and 200 inches helped visually fill the space.
